September Striper Fishing Workshop Recap

Thanks to everyone who joined us for the September Striper Fishing Workshop!

We enjoyed a productive morning session and then set sail as a small fleet to capitalize on the incoming tide. While we had a fantastic time on the water, we were unfortunately unable to connect with any sizable fish (one shaker doesn't count).

I'm still scratching my head trying to figure out what happened. I typically have good success during incoming tides, but I couldn't locate any significant schools of fish in my usual spots, from the slough mouths to the main channel south of Cuttings Wharf.

It seems the fish were pushed northward and were feeding near the surface. Regardless, the lack of trolling bites was a disappointing end to the day.

To try and even the score, I closed the shop at 6 pm and launched the boat again that evening. Unfortunately, my luck didn't improve. I didn't get a single bite, no matter if I was trolling, casting, or using bait.

It was a humbling experience, to say the least. But as they say, you can't win them all.

Days like these only strengthen my passion for fishing the Napa River. It's a constant challenge that keeps me coming back for more. Just when you think you've figured it out, the river throws you a curveball.

If it were easy, everyone would do it, right?

Speaking of striper fishing, I am super excited to announce a collaboration between Catch Happy and Powell Rods to design the ultimate Striper Trolling rod for our rivers and the Bay.

Join me in unboxing our first prototype.

I will fish this rod tomorrow and provide you with an update in next week's blog/newsletter. Hopefully, it will be a better day than last Friday :)

As always,

Catch Happy Friends.
