Ski Boat Fishing Challenge On Lake Don Pedro

On today’s adventure Alex and Austin are headed to Don Pedro for a ski boat challenge to target catfish and bass. Alex wanted to take his ski boat out on the lake and run it. The boat had not been started for over a year so Austin was a little nervous about taking the boat out. Alex had to do some convincing to get me on it. He did, and we did.

Since this is a ski boat, there was no fishing equipment installed with the exception of two rod holders in the back. The fishing gear we used to target catfish was Phenix and Okuma rods, paired with Avet and Okuma reels. We used lighter bass rods to target bass. For catfish bait we used anchovies and shad. For bass, we threw jerk baits, lip-less crankbaits, and worms.

We've pulled up to the ramp, launched the boat and tried to get her started. After 10 to 15 minutes of her just cranking not making any noise she finally showed some signs of life. Austin started talking sweet to her and she finally started! Austin, of course, was missing his fully equipped guide boat all the while. At the end of the day, Alex's ski boat ran amazing once we got her running. It just needed to be opened up.

After a few of the first coves failed us, Austin spotted some bass chasing bait. Alex had a worm rigged up and ready, so he pitched right in the middle of the bait ball and picked up a nice bass. It was tough fishing throughout the day. We couldn't get catfish to grab any bait and the bass were very finicky and we couldn't pattern them. We still had a great day on the water fishing and having good laughs, thinking, and planning our next adventure.
